This is a Demo page for the list of subpages approach to resolving the technical limitations that will prevent us from expanding the Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources (RSP) listings. It was one of three alternative methods that was discussed at the Perennial sources Rfc, regarding how best to make reliability data about perennially discussed sources available to users in an effective way going forward, that isn't subject to hard limitations of template expansion, as the current table is near capacity. The Rfc resulted in this approach being chosen by consensus as the way forward. This demo contains a mock-up of how a "Perennial sources" feature might look, if instead of having one large page organized as a table, it were split up into an Index page (like this one) containing an alphabetized list of source links targeting landing pages, where each landing page corresponds to discussions and other information about the reliability of one source. One landing page in this scheme corresponds to one row in the table in current operation, occasionally, more than one. Some of the links in the index list below have icons attached: they indicate a page converted to the new scheme. The icons are there strictly to facilitate navigating this demo, and are not part of any proposed new layout. All links go to a stand-alone page, but the ones that have not been converted to a landing page in the new scheme contain only a copy of the row for that source copied from the live table version, presented as a one-row table. (In a few cases, there may be more than one row in an unconverted page, where there are two or more rows in the live table that correspond to the same source. See the FAQ at the bottom of the page for the answers to some important questions about the list of subpages option. For other options, see the Rfc. |
Search for words in perennial sources. If searching on part of a word, append an asterisk; e.g. Bloom* will find Bloomberg, but Bloom will not.
Note: please ignore search box suggestions; they display incorrectly on some skins.
On the Index page, we could add icons to links during a transitional migration period, so that one could display, for example:
where the text link goes to the landing page in the new approach, and the icon goes directly to the table row in the current system. When everything was converted, the icons would be dropped.
