Welcome to the Museums WikiProject! A chunk of this text has been stolen borrowed under GFDL ;) from other Wiki Projects.

Goals
  • Improve Wikipedia's coverage of museums.
  • Improve quality of existing articles
  • Expand smaller museums in non-English dominant countries where articles are little more than a sentence.
  • Create guidelines for articles about museums.
Scope
  • The project covers all articles about museums in a wide range of disciplines and locations throughout the world. By member consensus, it does not include aquaria, herbaria, zoos and other non-museum 'collections' because these are well-covered in other projects.
  • For those within the museum sector, and collaborations between Wikipedia and institutions, see Wikipedia:Advice for the cultural sector.

To Do

Ongoing cleanup

There is an ongoing cleanup/developing in the undeveloped stub articles of Category:Museums in Greece to determine which of them meet with notability standards, develop them to at least basic stubs and nominate for deletion all the rest. May not meet WP:notability, user used to have promotional name of the museum as their username, article does not seem to be written in a WP:NPOV. Sylv302 (talk) 15:00, 27 October 2026 (UTC)

Museo de los Santos y Arte Nacional is a major cultural venue in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The initial entry of information was done by an intern at the museum who thought he was doing a positive task for social media. When it was initially blocked, it came to the attention of museum management who agreed that it was done in a promotional voice and should not have been started with a museum-oriented account name.
There was some confusion about changing name of user or starting a new account. Finally, the Board of Directors stepped in and stopped all 'in-house' work and had the students remove Wikipedia from any social media task list. The group leader was instructed to inform the intern that Wikipedia is not social media or a promotional website.
However, the board of directors saw that there was value in maintaining a Wikipedia entry for Museo de los Santos and asked me to evaluate the listing and edit/expand the article with fact-based information using other museum articles as a reference.
I have entered a majority of the information on the current version of the article and believe that it is fact-based and contains important information regarding a major museum in San Juan. The museum is routinely included with the Puerto Rico Museum of Art and the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art as one of the three most important museums in the Santurce Arts District of San Juan.
If the problem is the original user name - I hope that I have explained the situation (The Executive Director has instructed the interns to delete any that were created in their initial mis-guided efforts.)
If the problem is content, I would appreciate any guidance as to elimination/edit of any information that seems not fact-based.- or additions that would help maintain this important reference article.
Thank you for your continued monitoring of this article. Richard1673 (talk) 17:55, 27 October 2026 (UTC)
I am rather new so I feel this is on the edge of WP:notability and I do not know if it is notable enough to be on Wikipedia or not. I will go through the article and revise any promotional language. Thank you for your explanation, though you should probably list this as a conflict of interest on your user/talk page as is instructed by Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. While COI editing is not against the rules, it needs to be disclosed. Sylv302 (talk) 19:15, 27 October 2026 (UTC)

Propose merging into American Federation of Government Employees. No indication that this one local is particularly notable. Guy Macon (talk) 10:10, 7 October 2026 (UTC)

OMFG KEEP. Macon! Hands off!
I don't think that the overall AFGE Wikipedia entry is granular enough to adequately reflect the individual Local histories across decades of labor organizing. Where else will people find this history? PrairieHist (talk) 22:39, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
NOTE: PrairieHist (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) created the American Federation of Government Employees, Local 2463, Smithsonian Institution page and has pretty much been the only editor who has made other than minor edits to it.
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) represents over 820,000 federal and Washington D.C. government workers across more than 900 local unions. Please explain, in detail, what is so special about this one.
What reliable sources would you use to support "the individual Local histories across decades of labor organizing" for nearly a thousand locals? --Guy Macon (talk) 00:24, 9 October 2026 (UTC)
Support, the page is not all that notable Unknown Lifeform | Talk 13:54, 14 October 2026 (UTC)
Keep: "Why is this one special and others aren't" isn't a good justification for merging. Maybe those other ones are special. Maybe someone simply hasn't bothered to write about them. The sources present on the article more than substantiate independent SIGCOV, thus I'd really like a better evaluation than no indication that this one local is particularly notable, seeing as the local appears to be the entire Smithsonian Institution. An adequate WP:BEFORE doesn't appear to have been carried out here.
CSGinger14 (talk) 23:34, 14 October 2026 (UTC)
I believe that I did conduct an adequate WP:BEFORE. I looked at the sources for this local -- every one of them documenting a local union doing normal and routine local union things -- then compared it with 12 of the 900+ other locals I picked randomly and found that they all have sources showing them doing normal and routine local union things. Wow. They picketed. Negotiated contracts. Expressed concerns over worker safety. That's like saying that the MacDonald's on the corner of Hollywood an Highland should have its own Wikipedia page because there are a lot of sources saying you can buy a hamburger there. Even having an officer go to prison for stealing union funds isn't all that unusual. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:05, 15 October 2026 (UTC)
Respectfully, what the fuck else are they supposed to be doing? If an organization is widely reported on by reliable secondary sources for its actions, whether you personally consider them to be routine or not, that makes those actions notable. ROUTINE is very particularly meant to prevent us from talking about things like the McDonalds on the corner of Hollywood and Highland. It isn't meant to extend to every organization on the planet. Organization's actions might be routine for the organization, but that doesn't make them routine across the board. Under that same logic we can get rid of the article on every president before Trump, effectively, because they were just carrying out the routine functions of the presidency.
CSGinger14 (talk) 08:04, 15 October 2026 (UTC)
And, as a more simplified policy explanation, even if we took your logic to be correct, an overwhelming GNG pass still trumps ROUTINE, given that the notion that coverage is routine diminishes with each organization reporting on its ostensibly routine actions.

Wrong guideline. WP:ROUTINE applies to events. The guideline you should be reading is WP:BRANCH. --Guy Macon (talk) 09:34, 15 October 2026 (UTC)
The relevant notability guideline is WP:BRANCH, which is part on WP:NCORP: "Individual chapters, divisions, departments, and other sub-units of notable organizations are only rarely notable enough to warrant a separate article. Information on chapters and affiliates should normally be merged into the article about the parent organization"

Without that guideline you get 900+ individual pages covering the 900+ locals of this union, none of which are notable enough to justify a separate article. --Guy Macon (talk) 09:34, 15 October 2026 (UTC)

I think this is a bit of a slippery-slope fallacy. You're pointing to a policy that's offering a general provision for exclusion on bare notability as justification for overriding an overwhelming GNG pass.
CSGinger14 (talk) 10:39, 15 October 2026 (UTC)
It isn't an "overwhelming GNG pass". Not even close. Also, you are wrong about GNG overriding NCORP. It is the other way around. See WP:SNG, which says "Some SNGs [subject-specific notability guidelines] have specialized functions [and] operate according to principles that differ from the GNG". --Guy Macon (talk) 16:04, 15 October 2026 (UTC)
I don't know what else to call more than half a dozen independent, reliable sources discussing the subject at length within its context. If I can ask, what would satisfy you here? Cause from what I can tell, this is what WP:BRANCH says:
  • ...individual chapters...are usually not considered notable enough to warrant a separate article – unless they are substantially discussed by reliable independent sources that extend beyond the chapter's local area. - i.e the Wall Street Journal, The Government Executive, Snider & Associates, Products Finishing, etc.
And, even if we take your claim about NCORP precedence to be true, this is what it actually says:
  • ...an organization is notable enough to justify a separate article on the verifiable evidence that the organization or product has attracted the notice of reliable sources unrelated to the organization or product. - Which means not affiliated with, not discussing it entirely independently of the subject and its context, which is effectively the GNG.
Without some form of substantiation that borders on a radical misread of the applied policies.

Keep we have a pretty solid GNG-meet, and NBRANCH is kinda overwhelmed by Wall Street Journal coverage. Jishara (please ping upon response) (talk) 17:07, 23 October 2026 (UTC)

Question: Are we going to follow WP:SNG, which says "Some SNGs [subject-specific notability guidelines] have specialized functions [and] operate according to principles that differ from the GNG". or are we going to keep falsely claiming that the general notability guideline trumps subject-specific notability guidelines? Keep in mind that the discussion closers will discount arguments that do not follow Wikipedia's policies. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:39, 23 October 2026 (UTC)

We might, if the subject specific guidelines didn't themselves indicate that this should be kept, as I've deliberated above.
CSGinger14 (talk) 01:02, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
I am glad that you acknowledge that you now understand that your repeated claims such as "an overwhelming GNG pass still trumps ROUTINE" do not follow Wikipedia's policies.
So we are left with your claim that mention in the Wall Street Journal, The Government Executive, Snider & Associates, and Products Finishing makes this one out of 900 locals so very very special that it deserves a stand alone article because of its many notable accomplishments that are not shared by all those hundreds of lesser union locals. Let's examine that claim:
  • The only mention of "Smithsonian" in Products Finishing Magazine is here: And it doesn't mention the union at all. A union member working in the industry that is unionized is hardly notable. And the source doesn't even mention that he is a union member.
  • The Law Offices of Snider & Associates reference simply shows that the union filed an overtime grievance lawsuit and hired a law firm. That's a routine thing that most unions do.
  • TheGovernment Executive Reference reports that the union has concerns about worker safety. That's a routine thing that all unions do, and GE routinely reports on government unions.
  • I can't read The Wall Street Journal' ref because it is behind a paywall. The beginning of it is here It appears to be about a UAW president stealing from that union but may mention the Local 2463 president sealing from Local 2463 later in the article. We do know that that theft happened from this source: Sadly, an executive of an organization stealing from that organization is hardly unusual, and neither is the WSJ reporting on same. This does not make Local 2463 more notable that the other 900 locals. It might be a good start for creating a Audonus Duplessis article, though.
Just to be clear, are you being sarcastic? Am I going to find out that the above arguments are a parody of bad AfD arguments? Because they are so far from showing notability of the Local 2463 that they look like a parody or joke to me. Did you really not bother to check the see it the Products Finishing Magazine reference mentions any union? --Guy Macon (talk) 22:26, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
Dude this is needlessly aggressive and (against my better instincts) is bordering on WP:BLUDGEONING. The fact that I responded to your initial point by moving on (by making a substantive rebuttal to your initial claim) should indicate that you don't need to keep trying to pin me on a previous point in the discussion cause it makes it easier to undermine arguments opposing your POV. I cannot understand why you're so bent on removing this information; it's not uniquely evil to detail local history, and you're not supposed to be abusing the letter of policies against their broader spirit without reasonable explanation anyway. Remember that IAR is also a rule, even though that doesn't even matter here because these do fall within policy. I just want to note that before I respond to the substance of your claim, cause I don't want the two to get muddled together.
CSGinger14 (talk) 04:34, 24 October 2026 (UTC)
First off, here's some additional sources to back up notability claims:
Second, sure, Products Finishing doesn't qualify here, that doesn't give you a right to unilaterally determine I did zero analysis of any of the other sources. Nevertheless, you're once again discounting perfectly adequate sourcing with no other explanation than that you think it's unacceptable for press coverage about union activities to be used to substantiate notability for a union. That's entirely unreasonable. As pertains to the remainder, I do not see what it is that you're expecting it to satisfy? Like genuinely, you have offered no explanation as to what it is that you think would actually qualify these articles under policy, you've only offered responses in the negative.
Every source that's been raised, you've unilaterally determined is nothing out of the ordinary, hardly unusual, etc.. Nothing has satisfied you thus far, and you've offered no indication that you want anything but for this article to be removed; it seems like you just want to win, so this is going to be my last response, as I see this going nowhere, and other editors have already indicated that they feel it's qualifiable under policy. I'll remind you, though, The fact that any sourcing is present from outside the union's locality is indication that these events and the organization behind them are of great enough import to justify independent inclusion. @Jishara @MitYehor @PrairieHist, feel free to take my place. I've already gone through a trumped-up ANI hearing for having tried to defend this article's inclusion, I'm tired and am frankly done trying to reason my way out while the opposition keeps moving the goalposts.
CSGinger14 (talk) 05:00, 24 October 2026 (UTC)
Alternative explanation: This particular local isn't notable, which would explain why none of your sources establish notability. Please try to at least consider that possibility.
You failed to indicate in any way that you had moved on. I can't read your mind.
I see in the above that you are making claims about Wikipedia's notability guidelines that don't match the actual guidelines. If, as you claim, "any sourcing from outside the union's locality" establishes the notability of this one Union local, this would be a very different encyclopedia. For example, many nationwide sources have mentioned how much they like the food at the In-N-Out Burger at 7009 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA. It is just west of Hollywood High School, is a favorite among celebrities who work in nearby film studios, and is a particularly convenient drive from LAX Airport. However, it is not notable enough for a standalone Wikipedia article or even special mention in our In-N-Out Burger article. That's because making delicious hamburgers is a routine activity that all In-N-Out locations do, just as advocating worker safety is a routine activity that all union branches do. This would remain true no matter how many national sources sing the praises of the double double burger they got in Hollywood.
"Individual chapters, divisions, departments, and other sub-units of notable organizations are only rarely notable enough to warrant a separate article. Information on chapters and affiliates should normally be merged into the article about the parent organization." --Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)#Local units of larger organizations
--Guy Macon (talk) 06:02, 24 October 2026 (UTC)
Cool man, see the above. This doesn’t respond to any of that beyond asserting your original position, which I’ve already countered, and making a targeted statement about my character that takes the event of reference out of its context.
A little support from other editors would be appreciated here. Thanks.
CSGinger14 (talk) 06:14, 24 October 2026 (UTC)
Please don't write "I've already gone through a trumped-up ANI hearing" and then in the next breath demand that nobody talk about whether said ANI hearing was trumped up. The best way to not discuss something is to not discuss it, not to make your point and then complain when someone responds. --Guy Macon (talk) 06:41, 24 October 2026 (UTC)

CSGinger14 (talk) 06:47, 24 October 2026 (UTC)
Since you felt the need to link back to prove a point, I’ll say that you once again didn’t read the full text or analyze its whole context of my response. I didn’t in the next breath demand that nobody talk about whether said ANI hearing was trumped up.. My previous reply was a response to you are super aggressive whenever someone strikes, collapses, or removes a completely off-topic comment of yours, which is an aspersion and an inaccurate depiction of why I collapsed that section in the first place. Reminder that you brought the ANI board up first. I’d appreciate it, if you have a problem with me, that you raise that fact outside of this discussion, as (whether intentionally or not) you are discrediting/targeting my character in a manner which plays an unfair and illegitimate role in influencing policy outcomes. This is an escalation and baiting tactic, and it’s really quite an unacceptable way to be attempting to advance your cause.
