Florideophyceae is een klasse van uitsluitend meercellige roodwieren (Rhodophyta) waartoe bijna 95% van alle soorten behoren. Er zijn meer dan 7300 soorten, verdeeld over meer dan 35 orden. De meeste soorten komen voor in marien milieu. Er zijn drie orden, Balbianiales, Batrachospermales en Thoreales, die uitsluitend in zoetwater leven.
