Sara Murphy é uma produtora americana de videoclipes e filmes, conhecida por seus trabalhos com Paul Thomas Anderson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Aaron Katz e Barry Jenkins. Ao longo de sua carreira, Murphy ganhou o Independent Spirit Award John Cassavetes por Land Ho!, o Independent Spirit Award de Melhor Filme por If Beale Street Could Talk e inúmeros outros prêmios. Ela também ganhou o Oscar de Melhor Filme por One Battle After Another.
Carreira
Murphy inicialmente estudou engenharia e acabou conseguindo um emprego como assistente de Philip Seymour Hoffman. Em 2010, ela atuou como produtora associada em Jack Goes Boating, dirigido por Hoffman.
Em 2014, Murphy produziu Land Ho! dirigido por Martha Stephens e Aaron Katz, que ganhou o prêmio John Cassavetes do Independent Spirit.
Após a morte de Hoffman em 2014, Murphy foi contratada por Paul Thomas Anderson para produzir um videoclipe. Ela atuou como produtora em seus videoclipes para Joanna Newsom, Haim, Radiohead, e The Smile. Em 2019, Murphy atuou como produtora do filme musical Anima, de Thom Yorke, que foi indicado ao 62º Grammy Awards na categoria de Melhor Filme Musical.
Murphy também trabalhou na PASTEL, a produtora fundada por Barry Jenkins, onde produziu Never Rarely Sometimes Always e If Beale Street Could Talk, ganhando por este último o Independent Spirit Award de Melhor Filme. Em 2021, Murphy produziu Licorice Pizza, de Paul Thomas Anderson, pelo qual foi indicada ao BAFTA de Melhor Filme e ao Oscar de Melhor Filme.
Em 2022, Murphy lançou a Fat City ao lado de Ryan Zacarias, onde produziu Mother, Couch e If I Had Legs I'd Kick You. Em 2025, ela produziu One Battle After Another, de Paul Thomas Anderson, com Anderson e Adam Somner (que morreu dez meses antes do lançamento do filme), pelo qual ganhou o Gotham Independent Film Award de Melhor Longa-Metragem, o BAFTA de Melhor Filme e o Oscar de Melhor Filme.
