Leptodactylus is a group of frogs. Some of these frogs are called ditch frogs or white-lipped frogs in English. It is very similar to Physalaemus, a close relative, and indeed the 2005 described Leptodactylus lauramiriamae is in some aspects intermediate between them.
The name means "thin finger," from leptos ("thin, delicate") and the Greek (δάκτυλος, "finger, toe").
The genus Leptodactylus's sister taxon is the genus Hydrolaetare.
There are four groups of species in this genus. However, three species have not been assigned to a species group (L. hylodes, L. lauramiriamae, L. ochraceus).
