The iPhone (also called the first-generation iPhone, iPhone (original), iPhone 2G, and iPhone 1) was the first smartphone made by Apple, Inc. It was announced on January 9, 2007, and released on June 29, 2007. It changed the mobile phone industry, being the first phone to have a multi-touch screen. It was the start of the iPhone line of touchscreen phones by Apple.

Compared to other phones at the time, the iPhone had a much larger screen and removed most buttons, leaving only a home button to take you to the home screen.[source?] Its color is black with a silver back.

It used iPhone OS 1 for the first time. It could upgrade to other versions like iPhone OS 2 or iPhone OS 3 when they came out.
On June 9, 2008, Apple announced a version of the iPhone which featured slightly improved hardware, GPS, and 3G functionality.
