The following events occurred in April 1974:

State Department of Public Safety officials discovered Wednesday that Lassiter was the same trooper who had been the first to reach Barton Feb. 12, 1973, after an accident in the same area. Lassiter's swift action to halt the flow of blood from a severed artery was credited with saving Barton's life, a department spokesman said.
In an odd twist of fate, several months earlier Trooper Lassiter had saved the life of the driver who killed him when he was involved in an automobile accident.
