The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps. This specific page is the requests page for the Map workshop. Anyone can make a request for a map to be created or improved for a Wikipedia article. The standard format for making a request is shown below, along with general advice, and should be followed. Many maps on the web are in the public domain. See c:Template:PD-map; no need to create another free map here if it already exists on the web. See this Casebook to see what maps qualify as public domain.
You are encouraged to share information and request advice from others. Also see possible conventions toolbox, map tutorials and topographic map tutorials.
This is a WikiProject, an open group of Wikipedia editors. New participants are welcome; feel free to talk to us!
Sourced requests: If possible, please try to provide a reliable source to create a map. This includes a map already on Wikipedia with a reliable source or an external link.
Please check: Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
Direct collaboration: Some mapmakers are especially interested by one topic area. If you notice a mapmaker fitting your needs, consider asking on their personal talk page to request maps.
{{Reqmap}}: To request a map, you can also tag the talk page of the article in need of a map with or {{Reqmapin|Australia}} (articles then appear in Category:Wikipedia requested maps)
If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.
Advice to graphists
If you have completed work and not received a reply you may use the {{GL Map reply}} template to inform the requester.

Could someone remove haplogroup R1b from Northeast America and add haplogroup Q-M3 to the Caribbean? The scientific consensus is that the presence of haplogroup R1b in contemporary Indigenous American populations is a result of post-contact admixture, and the vast majority of pre-Columbian Y-DNA samples from the Caribbean belong to haplogroup Q-M3 or one of its subclades. – Treetoes023 (talk) 00:55, 12 August 2026 (UTC)

Could someone please create two SVG flag maps representing the Romani community of Czechia, with the first one displaying the standard Romani flag, and the second one displaying the winning design from Tomáš Rafa's 2013 contest to try and establish a specific Czech-Roma flag? Daher al-Umar maps: revisited
Hello. As part of my FAC nomination of Daher al-Umar, I need to make the following images compliant with MOS:COLOUR: File:Egypt_and_Syria_1768_to_1774_map_en.png and File:Daher al-Umar phases of expansion.svg. The creator and original uploader of the 1st image is no longer active but perhaps it can be converted to .svg to make it easier to edit (I'm illiterate in these matters)? As for the 2nd image, the efforts made by myself and Cmglee have evidently still not made the image compliant.
The 1st map currently shows areas and arrows of different colors indicating military campaigns and territories/territorial changes.
The 2nd map likewise shows shaded areas of different colors indicating territorial changes.
Can someone please help address the MOS:COLOUR issues by either patterning or using shades that can be distinguished in greyscale? Thank you, --Al Ameer (talk) 13:07, 25 September 2026 (UTC)
@Al Ameer son: How did you learn that it was not compliant? cmɢʟeeτaʟκ(please add {{ping|cmglee}} to your reply) 15:16, 25 September 2026 (UTC)
I see. I'm now hesitant to add patterns to map to help the colourblind after AntiCompositeNumber(talk·contribs) removed a similar one in the 12:51, 16 February 2019 version of File:Egypt_Sudan_claims.svg. cmɢʟeeτaʟκ(please add {{ping|cmglee}} to your reply) 17:58, 26 September 2026 (UTC)
Better striping/patterns might be better, the way that one was done was particularly unreadable. But our first port of call for colorblind accessibility should be using colors with sufficient contrast, rather than adding patterns. AntiCompositeNumber (they/them) (talk) 18:00, 26 September 2026 (UTC)
Hello all. Between the different options, I'd prefer if the colors can simply be changed to provide sufficient contrast, per AntiCompositeNumber's suggestion. @Cmglee: Would you be able to accomodate this request for both maps? Thank you --Al Ameer (talk) 15:54, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
@Al Ameer son: I'm not really interested in the FAC nomination as I expect there will be a lot of to and fro with the judges and I do not find it worth the effort. It's up to you if you wish to spend the effort but you'll have to do it yourself or find someone else. cmɢʟeeτaʟκ(please add {{ping|cmglee}} to your reply) 18:31, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
Requesting a kml file for each of the state level articles for Interstate 24, now that the main article has been split. Please note that the Tennessee map should include the short segment of I-24 that dips into Georgia, since this is covered in that article. -- Bneu2013 (talk) 08:02, 29 September 2026 (UTC)
Can someone please make a map of the Austro-Tai languages? The map would just be the map of the Tai-Kadai languages, and the Austronesian languages in one map. The map on the Austric languages article could be used as a basis, as it already includes both.
I am just wondering can somebody make a US map on the US states that have passed a Ten Commandments laws. Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Alabama all require schools to have it (in one color) and Tennessee that allow schools have it (in another color). .

I have made maps for the 4 presidential elections in the U.S. before the 12th Amendment that show how electors cast their second votes but the svg editor I use makes my maps look a little different from the other maps. I fixed this for other election maps I've made by manually editing the SVG code to give them a human-editable plain text format but the 1796 election map is just too complicated so I can't do this one.
I ran into the same problem with my 1788-89 map and I asked for assistance in the Commons Map workshop but I never got a response and eventually I was able to fix it. not sure I can't do that here though as this one is even more complicated thanks to the electors in Virginia and North Carolina.
Could someone please overlay the above map of Germany with the dots (towns) shown in the above left Figure? At the moment, the left Figure is used but it quite not telling. The various towns shown have precise coordinates given in wikipedia. The lines in the left Figure indicate quite badly (they are undirected) the "itinerary" of Bach through his life:
