The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps. This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed. SVG requests:
Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

Hi! This is a long one but is like that as part of a celebration, namely, the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. This was originally planned to be posted on the fourth of July (American independence day) but was instead posted early so some of the flags can be vectorized before and even on the day celebrating the event. I didn't know they changed the flag. The flag I was looking at was the one archived at web.archive.org on January 1 2024 https://web.archive.org/web/20240101/https://www.mastenenvlaggen.nl/product/dorpsvlag-lewedorp/ and this was the one I asking for vectorization. I use the list in this link to decide what flags need vectorisation and have archived the sites listed on both web.archive.org and archive.ph (aka archive.is, if one doesn't work, try the other). This is a good idea because the website listed for "Voorne aan Zee" was shut down and I was able to replace the link with the archived one. For the record, Voorne aan Zee had changed their flag since that page was archived and I had not checked mastenenvlaggen.nl in a while. That flag is apparently the old one and I didn't know that they had a new one. With the discovery that Lewedorp had changed their flag in the years since, I kindly ask request that both are done. Hi! I was wondering if someone can kindly please vectorize the flag of the General Agent of the Estonian Navy? The flag is a version of the flag of Estonia (a horizontal tricolor of three stripes from top to bottom of blue, black and white) with an addition of a square canton in white entirely in the blue stripe. In the square white canton are two crossed anchors in gold (the anchors might also have a black outline but I'm not sure if that's the case or not). I have included two Estonian flags with similar elements to use as references, so the request can be done more quickly. New coats of arms of Frisian villages (adopted since 2021)

Hi! Here's one that seems long but most of the hard work seems done and so will be actually done quickly I hope!!! I was wondering if someone can kindly please vectorize the flags of five more Chilean cities. These are Mariquina, Mejillones, Mulchén, Nacimiento and Ñiquén. Most of these have their coat of arms in them, and these are already vectorized and are placed here so the flags can be vectorised quickly. The exceptions are Mulchén (does not use the the coat of arms in any capacity), Nacimiento (which uses the elements from the coat of arms but makes it into a banner of arms) and Ñiquén (the same as Nacimiento). For some images, the reason why it takes a long while is because some images, may cross the boundaries of threashold of originality, trademark law and copyright law. Take the flag of Seattle for example. Some parts of an image are copyrightable, some aren't, and it is important to differentiate which is "too simple", as say, the flag of Fort Worth seems simple to me, but objectively, is it really simple to be copyrightable?
Therefore, we should probe deeper into what's required and all that so that if we impulsively upload images we think is free of copyright, we won't risk deletion. RAPTOR7762Whats up? 04:32, 12 September 2026 (UTC)

That's a great question. In short, the page for the WikiProjects and all its templates are all ugly, old, and inconsistent. The templates and projects of the page could be redesigned (i.e., made more visually appealing and consistent among each other) by starting from the relevant parts of my WT:AFI §Advice from the explain xkcd wiki (which also includes other non–design-related suggestions), such as redesigning the bland {{AFI barnstar}} around the new colours and style and making the {{AFI}} banner prettier. Ideally, every AFI subpage (the tabs atop the project's pages) and templates would be overhauled or at the very least updated to match the new colour palette. For example, this was one of my critiques which led us to decide to change the logo:
Every time I see the "Featured article"–esque star I think I'm on the wrong page, you can't use two similar icons for two completely opposite processes. Also, consider adopting a single colour palette. For example, Wikipedia:Articles for improvement/Nominations#Instructions uses three different colours while most other AFI subpages use brown and blue. And WP:AFIAUTO is just a total mess, there is every colour and icon imaginable.
As an example of a page that could be benefit from a redesign, take the WP:AFI homepage. There is a very short introduction, today's AFI (repeated twice in two different templates, for whatever reason...) and all of the following sections have an icon that has a completely different style from the next. The page never uses colours except in the box at the top. Then we have a table which was last updated 10 years ago, a bunch of semi-useful sections, an ugly "archive" box, and it ends with the technical steps needed to keep the project going.Or let's look at /Articles, which contains an ugly, seemingly unsorted list of links, then two collapsed sections, and the archives. Instead, if you look at Wikipedia:Good topics, it's not only better organised but it's also nicer to look at, and it uses the classic GA colour scheme and page structure. Another example of a page that uses colour to distinguish the various sections is Wikipedia:Featured content. We could use the green, gold, and dark blue colours as much as possible in all the AFI pages, to make the project as recognisable as possible. If one imagines the "Good article" project, the GA icon and colour immediately come to mind; that's absolutely not the case about AFI.The /Schedule is also just a few paragraphs and simple wikilinks. Compare it to Wikipedia:Today's featured article; it's night and day! There is a nice header (divided into two columns) which employs the standard, recognisable colour palette, then a really helpful Archive section which ties in perfectly with the design of the rest of the page, and finally the most recent featured articles, in a nice background, just as they would look on the main page (not just a bolded link). About the archives, look at WP:AFIARCHSCHED! It's not styled at all, it doesn't even have the project's logo. We could at least give it a colour, use columns instead of a raw list, give links to other useful pages, etc.I know there are more problems other than the simple styling, but if the project at least had a nice, consistent design, it wouldn't be too bad, imo. I'd be really happy to take a jab at it! I worked on the design for the French version of the project, which also uses a three-way color palette (green base, blue accent, and purple highlight), and I'm really happy to see this energy across three different wikis! @Cmglee: Sorry for the delay. The star is great!!! Just one thing though, you need to check the bottom part of the flag where the right-side up triangle meets the up-side down triangle near the bottom point of the up-side down triangle. I indeed found the first version asymmetrical with horizontals not quite horizontal and artifacts all over, and assumed it to be vectorisation error. Hi Goran tek-en, thanks for your question. I'm thinking pretty basic: mostly lines, perhaps with some grayscale. This illustration, used in another article, is a good example of the desired level of detail. I wouldn't be opposed to a bit of grayscale/shading to indicate the portions that are slightly raised (i.e., the enamel, crystal, and Celtic designs), but the main focus is to clearly show the design of the cross. --Usernameunique (talk) 20:04, 16 October 2026 (UTC)

@Usernameunique The Cross front photo is not taken straight on, it's a bit low and a little to a side. This means there is a parrallax disturbance in that image.
So please look at this image, do you know if the width at A is the same as at B on the cross?

I honestly want an icon for the Tea house in the GNOME/Nuvola/HumanIcons theme. Here’s what I want as an SVG: I take: Teacup/Utah teapot (Make either, but make both! The more, the merrier!)
