Wikipedia:Requested templates

Add new requests for a new template or updates to existing templates to the bottom of this page. Please be clear about what the template is used for, roughly what it should look like, and which articles it should link to, if any.

For requests regarding stub templates, go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals.

A general description and guideline for userboxes can be found at Wikipedia:Userboxes. A detailed instruction to use the userbox template can be found at Template:Userbox. For requests regarding userboxes, go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Userboxes/Ideas.

For help with fixing existing templates, you may want to visit Wikipedia:Village pump (technical).

Template for excessive details

{{Journalism sidebar}}

Make the sections (Beats, Genres, etc) collapsible and collapsed by default, as the template is too tall. Dabmasterars [RU/COM] (talk/contribs) 23:12, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

Export treemap templates

Hi, I have created an example of a proposed series of export treemap templates and would appreciate some feedback on the template structure before creating the rest automatically. I wrote a PAWS/Pywikibot script that can create the 220 templates discussed here: Wikipedia:Bot requests/Archive 89#Make interactive export treemaps templates. I have already created one template automatically as an example, together with the shared documentation page: Template:Export treemap Chile and Template:Export treemap/doc. Before creating the remaining 219 templates automatically myself, I would like to check whether the template structure, naming and documentation look appropriate.

I also have a question about categorization. Would it be better to create a separate category such as Category:Export treemap templates, rather than placing all of these templates directly in Category:Economics formatting and function templates and Category:Wikipedia image maps? PJ Geest (talk) 13:13, 17 September 2026 (UTC)

Done I have generated the templates and they are available at following category: Category:Export treemap image map templates. PJ Geest (talk) 14:28, 21 September 2026 (UTC)

Request: Sidebar Template for Conservatism in Canada

Resolved

Hello! I would like to request the creation of a vertical sidebar navigation template for articles related to Conservatism in Canada, mirroring the layout, collapsible formatting, and style of the existing American version: Template:Conservatism in the United States.

While a horizontal footer navbox currently exists, a vertical sidebar template would be highly beneficial for tracking regional factions, historical milestones, and key institutions on major Canadian political pages.

Here is a proposed structural layout based on the US counterpart to help a volunteer editor get started:

Thank you to any volunteer editor willing to port over the code framework from the US template to construct this regional version!

Template of Marc Weinberg,

Hello, i was trying to get a template of Marc Weinberg (Head Chief Meteorologist of WDRB News in Louisville, KY) i dont mind what it does but i would like the template to have his face on it and for it to rotate over time in a circular motion over a couple minutes (preferably 5 for it to make a full orbit hoop). I would prefer it to be a photo of only his face with the background still there, you can find one on Google, Thank you. - Stuart

What is your use case for this? Axolitl (talk | contribs) 16:31, 23 October 2026 (UTC)

Not done, consensus has been found not to include these. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 16:00, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
The "Done" ones do exist though. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 16:00, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
I would like it however. SportsLover1967 (talk) 16:01, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
Please see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2018 August 3 § Template:Strong support. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 16:29, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
I know that, but this was 2018. It's been 8 years. I might do it myself and/or with help. SportsLover1967 (talk) 16:38, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
Doing it yourself will probably result in it being deleted due to G4, but that's only if you actually were able to create them (as most of them are protected from creation). Axolitl (talk | contribs) 02:45, 24 October 2026 (UTC)
The most recent discussion was in 2021. See Wikipedia:Voting templates. Also, Wikipedia:Deletion review/Perennial requests § Template:Support Axolitl (talk | contribs) 17:33, 23 October 2026 (UTC)

Collapsible text in form of maintinence template

Can someone create a template identical to Template:Collapse top that does not print if placed in Wikipedia articles, so it could be displayed like in Special:Diff/1381341641? NewAccount7295 (talk) 02:52, 24 October 2026 (UTC)

Technically that would be pretty simple. A couple alternatives: if {{cot}} took the |style= parameter you could just add |style=noprint. (Some other collapsing templates do, but that one doesn't.) It looks like you could also just wrap it in {{noprint}} (it would have to be {{noprint|1={{collapse ... }} }}). LittlePuppers (talk) 03:48, 24 October 2026 (UTC)
