How to use this page

Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.
Making a request
Before asking volunteers to look for your source, try finding it yourself with the tools at your disposal.
In particular, eligible editors can use the Wikipedia Library, which gives access to content provided by numerous academic publishers.
- Though we would prefer you to ask for a specific journal, article or work, we will accept open-ended questions. You can ask for all kinds of sources here, either on this page or by writing directly to an active user.
- Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, date and identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc. Indicate which article you need this for.
- Due to copyright restrictions, we cannot send you full book/thesis copies. Narrow down your request to a specific chapter or page(s).
- Since we cannot post original copyrighted material online, we will most likely send it by email. Make sure you have specified an email address in your preferences before asking.
- Add the {{Resolved}} template when your request is completed.
- Filled requests are archived. Requests unfilled after three months will also be archived.
Fulfilling a request
- Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests, in full or in part. When fulfilling a part of a request, tell others which one so that they don't have to do the same work.
- Notify (mention) the requester using
{{u|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}
. - You can:
- post a URL address ( https://... ) if the material is available online and the webpage does not infringe others' copyrights
- share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service if legal
- upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons or Wikisource (make sure your institution's policies allow this). Check Wikimedia Commons's guide for copyright in each jurisdiction if in doubt.
- email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser ("wikimail") feature. Attachments are not supported, so you need the user's email address to send them. You can configure your wikimail in Special:Preferences.

- @Zanahary:
- It looks like the Bibliothèque nationale de France should have this: https://catalogue.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/cb34507783x
- If you aren't able to visit there in-person, they have a link to request a copy of it ("Reproduction sous conditions"), but you might have to get copyright permission from the copyright owner(s), and you'll probably have to pay a fee for the copying and/or usage. (I'm not familiar with the details of this; I'm just summarizing the information at the top of the form.)
- Alternatively, it looks like SOAS University of London also has this, with the article catalogued as a book: https://soas.on.worldcat.org/oclc/419466679

- I can't help you with that one, I'm afraid. Old printed magazines are notoriously hard to find nowadays and that's a problem I'm also facing myself. A link to WorldCat like thisISSN 1065-1667 might help. But if nothing helps and a request gets archived, I manually search online catalogs of various libraries and then ask editors who have access to these libraries directly. Might not be elegant, but was effective at least. AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 14:15, 8 February 2025 (UTC)

Picture Post Historical Archive, 1938-1957
Hello, I am entering the second phase of my search for the provenance of the Delivery After Raid photograph. Media sources indicate that it first appeared in the Daily Mirror sometime on or around 10 October 1940, but the kind people over at the reference desk spent a great deal of time looking and found nothing. My current hypothesis is that the provenance got lost as the Hulton Press Library changed hands many times over the decades, and that the idea that the photo was published by the Daily Mirror might have originated when the Daily Express was incorporated into the archives, which later became known as Trinity Mirror and then Reach plc, which owns the Mirror. I know, it's very confusing. The only place that I haven't yet checked is the Gale Picture Post Historical Archive, 1938-1957, which many educational institutions have available for their students and faculty to use, although it does seem to be fairly exclusive. Basically, I'm looking for any indication that the famous London Milkman photo appeared in Picture Post sometime after 9 October 1940, possibly the 10th or later. For some reason, Getty does not name the original publication.[1] Thank you for your help. Viriditas (talk) 19:54, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Viriditas: The 12, 19 and 26 October 1940 issues do not seem to have it, unfortunately. Some pretty interesting pictures though. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:55, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for checking! Viriditas (talk) 22:48, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
- Maybe check out Illustrated? It shares lots of personnel with the Picture Post, and was active during 1940 afaict. The only problem is that the generic name makes searching for an archive for it extremely hard. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 20:46, 23 March 2025 (UTC)

Some Russian- and Polish-language folklore reference works
I am looking into a possible article for an obscure folkloric critter (sandbox here) and have gotten as far as finding four sources courtesy of the Russian and Polish Wikipedias. I only need screenshots of the relevant entry from each book; I can use DeepL to translate afterwards (though if a native speaker of either language does it here instead, I would be very grateful).
Notice: starting 6 February and for (hopefully only) two weeks, I will be in a location without regular internet access and working long hours, so replies during that time may be delayed. Thanks, SilverTiger12 (talk) 00:23, 3 February 2025 (UTC)

Summary: Strength: 100.
Assessment: Mali is a landlocked state and has no formal navy or coast guard. However, the River Niger runs throughout the country and is navigable for much of its length most of the year. The river patrol forces of the army employ about 100 soldiers; they man three small river craft and are deployed for anti-smuggling patrols and counter-insurgency work along the River Niger.

University of Michigan thesis
For Draft:Dale A. Zimmerman, a draft I am writing. I believe this is his doctoral thesis, and I am hoping I can use it to find more information about his work. A PDF of the thesis can be downloaded for University of Michigan users from the DOI or Handle. Thanks, BhamBoi (talk) 05:59, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- If it is not possible to share the entire thesis, I was hoping the front matter or indices can provide some biographical information on Zimmerman and/or a name for who his advisor was. BhamBoi (talk) 06:01, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- ProQuest has this dissertation here, but TWL does not have full access to it. —Bruce1eetalk 07:14, 19 March 2025 (UTC)

- Thanks all, I can see the front matter through the ProQuest preview. I didn't previously have a link to the thesis on ProQuest, so thanks for sending that in! BhamBoi (talk) 23:33, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- Interestingly, no matter how I search for it or which account I use to search, this thesis does not come up on ProQuest. Thank you, then, @Bruce1ee for the direct link! BhamBoi (talk) 23:35, 19 March 2025 (UTC)

- It looks like #1 is freely available on Google Books in the US, where I am, but it seems to be restricted elsewhere, and on HathiTrust (one copy, another copy, yet another copy), it's labeled as "Public Domain in the United States, Google-digitized", so if you're unable to access it, send me an email, and since it's old enough to be public domain where I live, I'm okay with sending you the full article as well as the front and back matter.

Manila Seedling Bank picture in newspaper
There's a colored and clearer version of the newspaper which I want to check, but it's locked for premium: https://www.pressreader.com/newspapers/n/philippine-daily-inquirer-1109/20060329
I just need the clean image of Manila Seedling Bank at page A8. Other sources of images much appreciated :)
Thanks, RFNirmala (talk) 13:35, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
- When I click on that page, I get the message "Sorry, but the article you have selected is no longer available for viewing as it has been removed from our back issue access." I don't think anyone will be able to access this via PressReader. Do you know of any other databases with this image? Toadspike [Talk] 23:09, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- I did not know it's inaccessible even with subscription access, sadly. PressReader and Google News are the only ones I can search through my search engines sadly.
- Only library I've seen that has the article is the UP Diliman Main Library, but I'm not allowed to access physical collections as an outsider. Rizal Library only has a black-and-white microfilm of the newspaper. RFNirmala (talk) 23:57, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
- Ping just in case @Toadspike RFNirmala (talk) 00:05, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- I believe PressReader is designed to provide recent copies of newspapers and magazines for browsing, rather than serve as an indefinite archive of content. It is sad but not surprising that they do not have access to that article even on my institutional subscription. Toadspike [Talk] 00:13, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- @RFNirmala: What are you planning to do with the image? I'd assume it's still copyrighted. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:49, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- Was planning to use it for an infobox, possibly with a non-free rationale since I can't find free images online. I checked and the image is actually copyrighted. RFNirmala (talk) 00:54, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Articles from Providence Journal October 1917
Hi. I'm looking for any newspaper articles from Providence Journal between October 10th and 15th 1917. The articles would describe a march or protest by African Americans (the newspaper uses the term "negros" or "negroes" ) that took place in that city.
I used the Providence Journal's archive search feature, and found three articles: one each on October 10, 14, and 15. But (without buying a subscription $$) that search feature was not able to provide the article titles or page #, or content.

Book about reasons of downfall of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth
For User:Szmenderowiecki/sandbox/Politics of Poland. Чернышевского (1909-2009 гг.),OCLC 918214335,ISBN 9785999901132. Doesn't look like any libraries hold this, other than the Russian State Library (https://search.rsl.ru/en/search#q=004620728), though given the amount of times this has been cited, I'd have expected more. Sixth edition of Chinese History: A New Manual
For MOS:JG. I am researching whether Wikipedia should allow Chinese calendar dates and, if not, how they should best be converted into Julian/Gregorian dates. My notes are at User:Toadspike/Lunisolar research. I specifically would like any excerpts from this book about the Calendar – in the 4th edition, which I have access to, Chapter 39 (pp. 492–532) is about the Chinese calendar; this is likely similar in the 6th edition. Most important to me are the sections about Chronologies & Calendrical Concordances (Chapter 39.13 in the 4th edition) and the section Calendrical Difficulties (Chapter 39.5 in the 4th edition); these two sections should total about three pages. Also interesting would be to read SS.8 Calendar Dates, page xix in the fourth edition, which discusses this book's own practices on date formats.
