Men's jacket from The Hunger

The Hunger is the seventh collection by British designer Alexander McQueen, for the Spring/Summer 1996 season of his fashion house. It was inspired by The Hunger, a 1983 erotic vampire horror film. Typically for early-career McQueen, the designs emphasised female sexuality and sharp tailoring, and it was his first collection to include menswear. The runway show was staged at London's Natural History Museum on 23 October 1995. Imagery of sexuality, violence, and death predominated, most notably in a corset of translucent plastic with real worms encased inside. Models bared their breasts and flashed obscene gestures on the runway, and the show concluded with McQueen mooning the audience. Critical reception was mixed, with some seeing McQueen's work as immature or misogynistic. Retrospective analysis has focused on the cinematic inspiration behind the collection and the gothic imagery of the worm corset.
