Sir Peter Brian Medawar (d. 28 Şubat 1915 - ö. 2 Ekim 1987), Brezilyalı/İngiliz biyolog. Graft reddi ve kazanılmış immün tolerans ile ilgili keşifleri organ nakli uygulamalarında önemli bir yer edinmiştir. 1960 yılında Nobel Fizyoloji veya Tıp Ödülü'ne Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet ile birlikte layık görüldü.
Biyografisi
Medawar, 28 Şubat 1915 yılında Petrópolis, Brezilya'da (Rio de Janeiro yakınlarında bir kasaba) Lübnanlı bir baba ve Brezilyalı bir annenin oğlu olarak dünyaya geldi. İngiliz vatandaşlığı unvanını doğumda elde etti. Bir konuşmasında şöyle demiştir: "Benim doğumum İngiliz Konsolosluğu'nda kaydedilmiş ve böylece İngiliz statüsü aldım.". Medawar ve ailesi 1918 yılında Brezilya'yı terkedip İngiltere'ye taşındı ve hayatlarının geri kalanını burada geçirdiler.
Medawar burada Marlborough College ve Magdalen College, Oxford'da eğitim gördü.
Medawar, University of Birmingham (1947-51) ve University College London'da (1951-62) zooloji profesörü olarak çalıştı. 1962 yılında Ulusal Tıbbi Araştırma Enstitüsü'ne direktör olarak atandı.
