Purpose of this page Using this page

This page is for discussion related to student assignments and the Wikipedia Education Program. Please feel free to post, whether you're from a class, a potential class, or if you're a Wikipedia editor.

Topics for this board might include:

Of course, we should remain civil towards all participants and assume good faith.

There are other pages more appropriate for dealing with certain specific issues:

  • Start a new discussion thread. Use an informative title: ==Informative title==. If a thread is related to an ongoing discussion, consider placing it under a level-3 heading within that existing discussion.
  • You should generally notify any user who is the subject of a discussion. You may use {{ping}} to do so, or simply link their username when you post your comment.
It is not required to contact students when their edits are only being discussed in the context of a class-wide problem.
  • If no comments have been made within 30 days, your post and any responses will be automatically archived.
  • Please sign all contributions, using four tilde characters "~~~~".
  • If discussion is already ongoing elsewhere or if there is a more natural location for a discussion, please continue the discussion there, and put a short note with a link to the relevant location on this page.
  • If you cannot edit this page because it is protected, please place your comments on this page and they will be addressed.

Managing threads

If you'd like to make sure a thread does not get archived automatically after 30 days, use {{Do not archive until}} at the top of the section. Use {{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveNow}} within a section to have it archived (more or less) immediately. A brief Archives page lists them with the years in which those now inactive discussions took place.

Are WikiEd courses all doing peer review?

Is there a place to flag courses that appear not to be doing no or partial peer review (update: it looks like it may be a documentation issue) - Superb Owl (talk) 16:45, 22 September 2026 (UTC)

We give this as a choice to instructors in the Assignment Design Wizard they go through to create their course pages. We have pre-selected one peer review; instructors can opt instead for students to do two or zero (we do flag zero is not recommended). The vast majority of course pages follow our standard recommendations. We've also updated some of the instructions we give to student editors in the peer review exercise for this fall term, in particular to emphasize fact-claim verification as part of the peer review. --LiAnna (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:58, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
Thanks, @LiAnna (Wiki Ed) for explaining that - that's really helpful context. Do you track how many courses implement peer review? Superb Owl (talk) 20:07, 22 September 2026 (UTC)

Opaque course name: École de Design/DIN1210 (Automne 2026)

The course WP:Wiki Ed/École de Design/DIN1210 (Automne 2026) doesn't seem to follow the standard naming pattern of including the academic institution and the title of the course in the name. The current title is rather cryptic, and even the course page itself doesn't mention the institution. It didn't take much to learn that this actually refers to this course in the History of industrial design given at the University of Montreal. Given that the course is listed and taught in French, perhaps the Wiki Ed course page name ought to be something like:

WP:Wiki Ed/Université de Montréal/Histoire du design industriel (Automne 2026)

and the course page should be more transparent as well. Adding Brianda (Wiki Ed). Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 09:21, 2 October 2026 (UTC)

Now that I think about it, how does the collaboration actually work for a Wiki Ed course like this one where the assigned articles (e.g., fr:Lampe Tiffany, fr:Monobloc) are on another language Wikipedia? The training modules here cannot be relied upon, because they are based on en-wiki policies and guidelines, and fr-wiki P&Gs are different. Where do student questions get posted, in English at the Wiki expert's English talk page, or in French at their French talk page? Fwiw, if anyone gets a student question in French they want assistance with, you can either loop me in, or just send the student to my French talk page at fr:User talk:Mathglot. Mathglot (talk) 09:36, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
Yeah, it doesn't make much sense for this to be on en-wiki if the contributions won't be made here. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 15:00, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
I'll also not that several of the assigned articles are red links such as Femmes dans le design industriel, which presumably should be fr:Femmes dans le design industriel. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 15:03, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
Hi @Mathglot @Myceteae, We are still refining our processes for how to best register classes that are working on multiple language wikipedias, and in this case the dashboard home wiki should've been on French as it looks like they're primarily working on the French Wikipedia. We are currently discussing what kind of processes to create to catch these kinds of classes (not many classes work in other languages). The instructor knows our help is a bit limited on the French Wikipedia, but we still keep an eye out to make sure they are following the basic principles of sourcing and neutral tone, working with the instructor.
As for the naming of the course, those are fields that filled in by the instructors when they sign up, and in this case, it does differ from the norm but it's ok with us. Brianda (Wiki Ed) (talk) 23:36, 7 October 2026 (UTC)
Thanks. As for other languages, there's just Spanish and French so far, right? Are there any others now, or planned? Mathglot (talk) 01:20, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
For a related discussion involving a particular assignment in this course, see this student Talk page. Mathglot (talk) 22:56, 2 October 2026 (UTC)

Biology Learning Space

Could somebody please take a look at User:E. Namundjebo? This came up at SPI where they were initially identified as a sock, but I'm assuming it's really related to a school teaching project. They could do with some helpful guidance on how school projects should be managed. RoySmith (talk) 23:43, 13 October 2026 (UTC)

Category:Wikipedia Student Program

What is the purpose of this category? All the best: Rich Farmbrough 13:22, 18 October 2026 (UTC).

It was created in 2019 with the edit summary "This was one of the most-wanted categories per Special:WantedCategories, and a brief look around did not indicate anything wrong with its existence. If it is problematic feel free to take it to CfD." I'd support doing so if it got the name of the program wrong. Clarinetguy097 (talk) 03:55, 19 October 2026 (UTC)
PThere were a couple of articles in it, which I've removed. I'll take another look later today if I remember. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 05:49, 19 October 2026 (UTC).
