Thayer is a city in Neosho County, Kansas, United States. According to 2020 census, around 432 people were living here.

History

Thayer was planned out in the fall of 1870. This is when the railroad was extended to that point. It was named after Nathaniel Thayer, who was a railroad employee. The town was built up quickly and was incorporated as a city in 1871.

Geography

Thayer is at 37°29′14″N 95°28′34″W / 37.48722°N 95.47611°W / 37.48722; -95.47611 (37.487127, -95.476237). The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.80 square miles (2.07 km2). Of that, 0.75 square miles (1.94 km2) is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 km2) is water.

Weather

Thayer has hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. The Köppen Climate Classification system says that Thayer has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.

The 2020 census says that there were 432 people, 191 households, and 131 families living in Thayer. Of the households, 62.8% owned their home and 37.2% rented their home.
