Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Geography

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Geography. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Geography|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Geography. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Does this even exist? Is "Aalam Garh" a human or a location? It appears to be a location. Polygnotus (talk) 13:15, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Is it کیت which is located here? Polygnotus (talk) 13:18, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It must be this, Google calls it "Kaint". Polygnotus (talk) 13:22, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct — it is Kaint (Urdu: کینت), but I will support its deletion in the absence of reliable sources. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 22:53, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No other sign of a town here, so as the source says, probably just a station stop with a post office. Mangoe (talk) 14:43, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Delete - Seems like a similar situation to what happened to Joppa, but here there's no proof that the town existed at all, other than as a railroad stop. Seems that this article was a WP:BADIDEA from the get-go; just because there are records doesn't mean it's notable. JTZegers (talk) 18:11, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete: Looking at surrounding towns you can tell this isn't really a 'settlement'. Rutland consists of a couple of farmhouses at a railroad xing; contrast this with Hibbard, Indiana and Burr Oak, Indiana just up the railroad; they are tiny but clearly settlements, having a couple of streets and businesses.

Poorly sourced, and not notable enough to have a standalone article. Most of the article discusses topics that are only tangentially related. Better to merge the relevant information into Sato Project and/or Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. Stonkaments (talk) 22:40, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Delete or Redirect to American_expansionism_under_Donald_Trump#Danish_and_Greenlandic_reactions. This is a classic case of turning confusing existence with notability and goes against what Wikipedia is not (in this case not a newspaper). All the citations were published the same day. As such, this does not have lasting coverage. I also believe that this event fails WP:EVENT inclusion criteria #4 specifically as this is a viral phenomena. It is WP:TRUMPCRUFT-adjacent as much like not everything Trump says deserves an article, not every response to what he says deserves an article either. Mpen320 (talk) 15:08, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This is an article about a mountain lake in Norway -- fails notability guidelines, by virtue of being a random lake in Norway. There are 300,000 lakes in Norway. Besides that, most of the article fails WP:NOTPROMO, and WP:NOTGUIDE; it talks about the amenities of the lake, like hikes, grills, and a nearby campsite. Serious NPOV issues, doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Needless to say no WP:SIGCOV in WP:RS. AnonymousScholar49 (talk) 00:40, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Geography and Norway. AnonymousScholar49 (talk) 00:40, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: it's not a "mountain lake" at all, it's located on the city outskirts and used as a hiking spot/campgrounds. "Needless to say" doesn't seem to hold water (!), why would that be needless to say? Where did you do your WP:BEFORE that is not Google? Geschichte (talk) 07:53, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Needless to say was poor semantics, I apologize. I did my WP:BEFORE on JSTOR, Gbooks, GScholar, and norwegian google. I said it was a "mountain lake" because the article classifies it as a "tarn," which is a mountain lake. There some things, like "woah guys this lake exists," but imo it still fails under WP:NOTGUIDE-- I could be wrong, and if so, please let me know w/sources etc. This article is also an orphaned article. Camp Shor, Indiana (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

An actual camp, now called Campshore but before that, a resort catering to Orthodox Jews (there are numerous journal references to this effect) and before that, acto this Arcadia book, named "Laughrey Club". Their claim that it was inundated and is gone is not true, but the testimony to the "Camp Shor" phase is clear if not terribly deep. I'm a bit dubious as to its own notability though our article on Young Israel might have a place for it. In any case, it is plainly not a settlement. Mangoe (talk) 20:31, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A spot on the railroad just east of Newton, close enough that on Streetview you can see the structures of the latter off in the distance. This is now the site of a warehouse and nothing else; back in the late 1950s there was a different, smaller building and a single house, but hardly a town. Seems to have just been a rail spot, though at least it amde it onto the topos without the help of the highway department. Mangoe (talk) 01:28, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Delete I concur with Mangoe. A quick Google search turns up nothing notable on the subject. Only two results relating to the topic. One result is this article, and the other is its entry on mapquest. Neither entries show anything notable. Editor113u47132 (talk) 02:18, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This Indian town doesn't really have any notability, other than having a train station in it. Article only really has a name and a non-absolute location (only relative to other areas). Dr. Hyde, muahahaha jekyllthefabulous (speak, or you shall die) 07:33, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • delete without prejudice to recreation with reliable sources. Both this and the station article are essentially sourced entirely to GMaps, which is not a reliable source. The locations are also not consistent with each other. The station article is more likely correct but as it stands in a certain isolation its relationship with a supposed village is unclear. I can't read Hindi so I'm not of much use in writing here, but my recollection is decent articles on these villages can generally be at least partly sourced from the census. At any rate, given that the location information is all we have, and it is rather suspect, starting over is the route to take. Mangoe (talk) 12:04, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My opinion stands that as long as the Kotikulam railway station article exists, it makes sense to redirect Kottikulam there, since it's the same word with a different spelling Geschichte (talk) 08:32, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is no reliably sourced coverage of the subject. None of the sourcing in this article is independent of the UAE government, resulting in a ludicrously credulous and promotional article of this UAE government project. Thenightaway (talk) 05:03, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the concerns raised. I am currently improving the article by adding more independent, reliable sources that provide neutral coverage of the subject. Additionally, I am revising the content to ensure a strictly factual and non-promotional tone, in line with Wikipedia's neutrality policy. Given that the project has received coverage in independent media outlets (such as [Shurooq]), I believe the subject meets Wikipedia’s notability guidelines. I respectfully request additional time to complete these improvements. Below are the links for your reference.

  • Keep unfortunately, the UAE does not have freedom of press, and there are hardly any newspapers, making coverage on topics that would appear to be notable by residents be limited. Gulf News and Khaleej Times are going to be your best bets for coverage on anything. This project is definitely notable regardless of the bias of the sources. Also, the place has won quite a few awards (see the article), which is a sure sign of notability. jolielover♥talk 19:07, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
